Pilates

Pilates Method is a safe, intelligent exercise system developed from the techniques of the late Joseph Pilates (1880-1967).

Pilates works the muscles on a deep level, supporting and assisting the skeleton- therefore reducing the risk of unnecessary tension and injury. Precise movements are incorporated to develop uniform muscle tone and alignment throughout the body, thus allowing your body to move more freely and perform efficiently.

Pilates is suitable for all ages and levels of ability, and will greatly benefit your everyday activities and sports.

The key principles and benefits of the Pilates Method:

Postural awareness - can provide relief from ongoing postural pain. Greater joint mobility, less incidence of back pain and injury.

Effective breathing - used to both calm and invigorate the body in movement. To reduce stress levels and aid relaxation, to encourage a more efficient respiratory system.

Deep abdominal and pelvic control - activates and strengthens abdominal and pelvic floor muscles especially beneficial during pregnancy, post-pregnancy, and rehabilitation of back, pelvic and hip pain.

Concentration of the mind - helps to develop a deeper understanding of your own body.

Movement co-ordination, balance, flow, and stamina - your body will begin to move more freely, enhancing your body’s flexibility and balance. Boosted immune system, more efficient circulatory system and lymphatic system reducing toxins in the body. Increase in bone density and muscle tone.

"Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit"
J H Pilates
